Obituary for Pamela Bettell Hunter

Pamela Bettell Hunter
Pamela Bettell Hunter, 66, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 18, 2017 after a courageous 5 1/2 year battle with cancer. Pam was born in Houston on February 8, 1951 to Horace Benjamin Bettell and Martha Ellen Sisco. After graduating from Waltrip High School in 1969, she received her degree in Education from the University of Texas at Austin.

As a child, she grew up with a passionate love of horses, animals and nature. She was a mascot for the Harris County Junior Sheriff’s Mounted Posse and spent much of her time outdoors playing in the magical garden of her family’s home in the Houston Heights.

Throughout her lifetime, she touched many lives as a gifted and beloved elementary school teacher and yoga instructor. She was a source of light and inspiration, and will always be remembered for the twinkle in her blue eyes and her unique way of being in the world.

Pam is survived by her daughters, Jill and Julie; beloved dog, Sam, son-in-law, Nicholas Asher; granddaughters, Isabel and Rose; sisters, Barbara Thomas and Linda McGee; brother, David Bettell; cousins, Jackie Yates and Steve Barthelemy; and numerous nieces, nephews, and good friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and niece, Lori King.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 2 at the Live Oak Friends Meeting House at 1318 West 26th Street in Houston (www.friendshouston.org). Afterwards, family and friends are invited to join us in a Jamaican inspired celebration of life gathering to honor Pam in the way that she would have liked. Attire with bright colors is welcome, as is anything that conjures up visions of Caribbean life.

We will have a tribute scrapbook at the service and invite you to bring a photo or special story that you can share in the book to cherish her life and memory.

In lieu of flowers, please bring a small potted plant in her remembrance to honor her respect for our earth and all of its life forms. Donations may also be made in her name to the Citizens for Animal Protection (www.cap4pets.org) or as a Memorial Tree through her online tribute page.
